From January 1, 2009 the Swedish Transport Agency handles this issue.

The Maritime Safety Inspectorate reported annually up to 2007 statistics and comments concerning reported accidents and incidents that involved Swedish merchant and fishing vessels as well as vessels used for purposes connected to merchant shipping. The report primarily covers events that the ship’s master is required to report to the Maritime Safety Inspectorate according to Ch. 6, §14 of the Swedish Maritime Code. In addition to master’s reports, information about the accidents and the course of events is taken from the records of the ship’s maritime declaration hearing as well as reports from surveyors with the Safety Inspection Area, the Swedish Coast Guard and the police.

The Maritime Safety Inspectorate also presented an annual report of maritime accidents in Swedish waters involving merchant and fishing vessels. The report also covers maritime accidents that occurred in Swedish waters involving Swedish and foreign vessels during the calendar year of which the Maritime Safety Inspectorate became aware. The compiled report shows all known reported maritime accidents and more serious accidents involving people.
