Improved reporting compliance to the SafeSeaNetsSweden system (SSNS)
The Swedish Maritime Administration is continuously working to control compliance with the reporting obligation to SafeSeaNet. The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) controls in turn that we as a member state ensures that ships arriving or departing a Swedish port or anchorage report according to applicable requirements.
EMSA´s latest control showed that we in Sweden have improved our reporting statistics considerably. The number of missing ship notifications has fallen from 18 % to only 1 % at the latest control, December 2010. During the same time period has the number of ships reporting dangerous goods increased from 25 % to 85 %. This is thanks to our users who report according to applicable requirements. This means that Sweden is doing very well in comparison to other member states.
We are aware that this reporting is an administrative burden for the Shipping Industry and we will therefore shortly put in place technical solutions to some extent facilitate the reporting process. We would also like to remind you that the purpose of the SafeSeaNet system is to disseminate information in order to enhancing safety and improving the response of authorities to incidents, accidents or potentially dangerous situations at sea and to contribute to a better prevention and detection of pollution by ships.
We would like to thank all users who report according to the requirements.
