Pilot areas have as its primary mission to serve the shipping industry and protect the public's interests. It performs approximately 13000-14000 missions every year.
The pilot areas are responsible for large tracts of land east of the maritime area. In this whole area is a significant authority carried out in all matters of nautical character.
Pilot Area Gothenburg
Lake area: From the border with Pilot Area Malmö, ie Kungsbacka Municipality southern municipal boundary, north of Kidholmen and Northern Rock, south of Broad Mountain and in the direction 270 degrees, to the west of a north-south line from Nordre river north shore of the island Bassen-east point of latitude 57 ° 46.1 'N. Pilot Area Lysekil / Marstrand
Lake area: From the border with Pilot Area Göteborg to the Norwegian border.
Land Area: Kungälv except Nordre and Gota River, Stenungsund, Orusts, Uddevalla, Lysekil, Sotenäs, Munkedals Tjörns, Tanum and Strömstads municipalities in the county.
Lysekil pilot station, strategically located in the absolute proximity to Brofjorden, serving the north and especially Brofjorden, the country's largest port for oil imports. There are a total of ten pilot’s stationed and pilot boats. One of these is permanently located in Strömstad.
Thirty nautical miles southward one finds Marstrand pilot station. Approximately ten pilots’ serves Uddevalla, Wallhamn in Tjörn and the petrochemical industry in Stenungsund serviced for arriving and departing traffic. The pilot station is located right at the southern entrance on the landward side and have a nice port where pilot boats are stationed.
