The following tugboat regulations are intended as guidance for requesting tugboats upon arrival/departure with pilot in the East Coast Traffic Area

The pilot decide together with the ship's master from case to case if a planned manouvre can be done with sufficient safety margins.

A concrete consequence of that these standards are consulted in a early stage (i.e. at ordering pilot), is mimimized risk of delays and that dues of short notice for tugs and dues of pilot delay are reduced. There are specifications for most of the ports in the area and the normal account of tugs to be used.

Note that from July 10th 2009, there are new conditions concerning exceptions from tug boat regulations. All exceptions per vessel issued before January 1st 2008 will be withdrawn.
