  • Length refering to L.O.A.
  • Special restriction Haraholmen:
    Traffic at the eastern fairway (passing Storstensgrund Sydöstra) is not permitted if vessel moored at the oil jetty is loading/unloading gas.
    VTS Luleå will inform in- or outbound vessels about the restriction.

Following restrictions for vessels passing through the Pitsundet

  • Daylight and not less than 3 nautical miles visibility.
  • Maximum wind 8 m/s.
  • Ships with cranes at port side are not suitable.

Wind Restrictions

Vessels to Skelleftehamn - the Inner Harbour:
Maximum mean wind 8 m/s for:

  • Vessels with two pilots onboard according to the Pilotage Regulations (SJÖFS 2008:6).
  • Vessels with a L.O.A. longer than 160 m.

Restrictions at low visibility

Vessels to Skelleftehamn and Rönnskär:
Daylight and not less than 3 nautical miles of visibility for:

  • Vessels with two pilots onboard according to the Pilotage Regulations (SJÖFS 2008:6).
  • Vessels with a L.O.A. longer than 160 m.
  • Vessels with draugt more than 9.5 m.

Vessels to Haraholmen:
Daylight and not less than 3 nautical miles of visibility for:

  • Vessels with two pilots onboard according to the Pilotage Regulations (SJÖFS 2008:6).
  • Vessels with a L.O.A. longer than 170 m.
  • Vessels with draugt more than 9.5 m.

Vessels with special manœuvrability may be exempted from those standards after decision by the Maritime Traffic Area Manager.


Tugboat Regulations 

  • Skelleftehamn: Inner Harbour/Oil Harbour
  • Rönnskär
  • Haraholmen: Haraholmsberth/Oil Harbour

  • LOA = "Length overall" in meters.
  • Operating bowthruster replaces one tugboat.
  • Vessels calling on a regular basis may be exempted from those regulations after decision by the Maritime Traffic Area Manager.
  • Vessels with special manœuvrability corresponding to a tugboat can apply for reduction of tugboat(s), wich must be decided by the Maritime Traffic Area Manager.
  • Lists of vessels with exemptions as mentioned above are placed att VTS Luleå and VTS Skellefteå.
